Where to dine on Sinulog Day?

Thu, Jan 15, 2009

Greetings

Cebu Restaurants Where to dine on Sinulog Day?

For tourists and locals alike, the Pakalistas have taken up the monumental task of identifying the great restaurants in Cebu to go to this Sinulog Sunday. This task is so difficult, they had to meditate over their choices in the Sto. Nino Basilica for hours.

Silliness aside, here are the Pakalistas’ personal recommendations:

FEDGE

1. Sinangag Station – Start the day with a healthy breakfast of tapsilog!  Delicious, affordable, and with free soup.  There’s a Sinangag Station at the back of St. Theresa’s College.

2. Alberto’s Pizza or Da Vinci’s Pizza - Alberto’s Pizza is near Fuente Osmeña Circle where the action is; it is very affordable. You can have your order on the go too. Da Vinci’s Pizza is the upscale version of Alberto’s but not as expensive as Yellow Cab.

3. Golden Cowrie – I’m in a festive mood befitting the occasion, so it’s nice to have dinner at one of the best yet inexpensive Filipino restaurants in Cebu.

My choices are mostly home-grown establishments because it’s Sinulog; it is a celebration of Cebu and the Sto. Niño… Bisdak ni Bai! Hehehe…

BERG

1.  Sunburst

2.  Larsian

3.  Siomai sa Tisa

These three are along the Sinulog parade route. And you haven’t been to Cebu if you haven’t eaten at these 3 “almost landmark” eating places.

4. Kan-anan ni Kuya Jay – This is also near the Sinulog parade route, and it offers affordable and delicious food.

5. Case Verde (original branch in Ramos) – You should taste the big difference between food served in the main branch and those served in newer branches. Lami jud ang orig!

EYEAN

1. Lemon Grass

2. Hukad sa Golden Cowrie (Terraces Ayala Cebu)

3. Golden Cowrie (Lahug)

If you find yourself in the Terraces Ayala Cebu for the Sinulog festivities, I recommend Lemon Grass and Hukad. If you’d rather be away from crowded places, try Golden Cowrie in Lahug. These Cebu restaurants serve delicious food!

SHEL

1. Handuraw in Lahug

2. Chowabungga in IT Park

3. Ambassador’s Cafe in Camputhaw

4. #10 Dove Street in Banilad

5. Red Moon in Banilad

I’m not sure if these restaurants are open this Sinulog Sunday, but they should be open to take advantage of the many people flitting about the city. I am recommending these places because I like the food (Handuraw has very tasty mojos that are relatively inexpensive) and, more importantly, they are not located along the Sinulog parade route (I think). Basta, kanang walay daghan taw didto ko!

Hope these recommendations will prove to be useful to our fans readers.

Pit Senyor!

P.S. Going to 10 Dove Street might not be a good idea after all because Sto. Nino Village residents will be celebrating as well. There will still be lots of people there.
