Lunch at Nonki Japanese Restaurant

IMG_5601 copy

I love my job!

Oh well not entirely but only for some of the perks that came with it.  As someone from the product development field, I have suppliers from around the world and when they visit me here in Cebu, they are forced usually treat me and/or my boss out to lunch or dinner for meetings or just hang out with them after an intoxicating discussion.

Lunch at Nonki Japanese Restaurant was one of those days.

This supplier of mine loves Japanese and Thai food.  He usually treats me at Rai Rai Ken but I didn’t want to go there at that time and I really want to try another Japanese restaurant here in Cebu.  My boss suggested that we dine at Nonki Japanese Restaurant at A.S. Fortuna St. Mandaue.

Nonki Japanese Restaurant: Pork (something) with Fish Lunch Set – Php 290

When it comes to Japanese food or Japanese restaurants in general, your immediate reaction is that they are quite expensive.  I thought the same is true at Nonki Japanese Restaurant.  But I was surprised to find out that they have affordable lunch set and bento meals there.

Nonki Japanese Restaurant: Beef Teppanyaki Lunch Set - Php 310

Nonki Japanese Restaurant’s set meals range from Php 290 – Php 500.  It is not ultra cheap by Filipino Food standards but as a Japanese restaurant that is quite affordable already.  The set meal includes rice, miso soup, squid appetizers, and desserts.

Nonki Japanese Restaurant: Pork Katsudon with  some Sashimi Set - Php ???

Having a taste of the miso soup brought back good memories of my first and hopefully not the last trip to Japan.  I did like my teppanyaki because the beef was soft and it was surprisingly spiced and not overly bland like most Japanese food for me tastes like.  The beef teppanyaki lunch set is a good choice, and I would recommend it.

As for the pork lunch set, I didn’t like it that much because the pork is smoothered with onions and the set came with a fish.  This is nice though if you’re a fish fan.  The katsudon I wasn’t able to try because that was the food my supplier had.  We are obviously not that close to be tasting each other’s food LoL.

So if you ask me if I’d go back to Nonki Japanese Restaurant, I would say yes.  I love Japanese food even though I don’t understand it sometimes.  It is a good “weird” food.  You can check out the menu (incomplete) and food prices here.

hi :) it’s 2am and my mom and I are still rummaging through your posts because we’re hungry. hahhahaa. I love sushi and japanese food in general. I’d like to recommend to you that you try Chirorin Japanese Restaurant and Spa which is also located at banilad. I’ve tried out Chirorin recently with my boyfriend and we both liked it, especially the authentic japanese setting and the waitresses dressed as french maids. (rarr, japanese kinky-ness) hahhaa. But one thing to take note whether a japanese restaurant is good is when you try out the miso soup which they serve first. Chirorin’s miso soup is a lot better than most that I’ve tasted around jap restos here in Cebu, and in Manila. I tried Nonki a few days after dining at Chirorin. It was okay, a bit pricey though. But the miso soup was far lesser than that of Chirorin though a bit better than Rai rai’s. I also like Tempura’s wide variety of sushis esp with their take in western fusion sushis but all the same there are better stuff out there. I really enjoyed your reading your blog, thank you.

Thanks Eloise and Mom for dropping by our blog and for writing a long comment. How pricey is Chirorin compared to the other Jap restos here?
