A lot of people made a comment on my Hukad sa Golden Cowrie post, and most of them agreed on the poor service and food quality at the Terraces Ayala branch.
It may seem very contradicting that I recommended Golden Cowrie as one of the restaurants in Cebu to visit and dine in because I somehow trashed the Ayala Cebu branch.
Most of the good dining experiences I had of Golden Cowrie was at the SM branch because my family frequently go there. This time around I’ll be featuring Golden Cowrie in Lahug. Find out if my dining experience in this branch was better, great, or worse!

Golden Cowrie Rice
If you don’t know already, rice in Golden Cowrie is served in a banana leaf and comes unlimited. This is a very nice traditional Filipino touch. I must admit that that is one of the reasons why I frequently dine at this Cebu restaurant. Sometimes I just wish they can leave the whole caldero at my side so I don’t have to call them every now and then! Hehehe.

Golden Cowrie Baked Scallops Php 119.00
When you’re in Golden Cowrie, it is a MUST to order their Baked Scallops. The scallops they served was definitely better than the one at Hukad Terraces Ayala. Again, this comes highly recommended!

Golden Cowrie Sisig Php 95.00
I am a huge sisig fan! I used to buy even Monterrey Sisig and even those canned ones in supermarkets. But over time, I noticed that they stuff in a lot of pork liver and veggies in it, and I’m not loving it anymore.
Golden Cowrie’s sisig is (according to them) also one of their best sellers, so I was really expecting a lot on their sisig. But unfortunately, it was not a great sisig; it maybe the second-to-the-worst sisig (a tapsilogan in Lapu-Lapu) I’ve ever tasted so far!
It looks really great but I don’t consider this one a pork sisig. It had a lot of stuff like some (assuming) veggies and spices that definitely deviates from what a sisig should be for me. I just had a couple of spoons of it and then no more.

Golden Cowrie Fried Tuna Fingers Php 165.00
I am fond of munching on Golden Cowrie’s Fried Tuna Fingers even if I’m not much of a fish eater because it tastes good that I sometimes forget that it’s fish. But the one they served us that day was not even remotely close to what I had in the SM branch.
The tuna fingers were over-fried, smell like fish, and it tasted like fish! Okay, the last two I can understand because I’m clearly in denial that it’s fish. But seriously it was a case of bad cooking. I pronounce the tuna fingers dead because it already showed signs of rigor mortis!

Golden Cowrie Chicken Halanghalang
I was not expecting much now from Golden Cowrie’s Chicken Halanghalang because it’s not one of their best sellers, and their best sellers just failed to impress me earlier.
But fortunately I was so wrong to give up on Golden Cowrie. I so loved this chicken halanghalang! I have to warn you though that it is indeed VERY spicy. Golden Cowrie’s chicken halanghalang became my instant favorite.

Golden Cowrie Ripe Mango Shake
So there you have it! A review of Golden Cowrie Lahug. It was not a completely pleasant dining experience because some of their best sellers simply failed to impress this Pakalista.
On the bright side though, my old-time-favorite baked scallops is still one of the MUST-ORDER Filipino food in Golden Cowrie, and I’ve also found a new favorite - the chicken halanghalang.
The service here in Lahug is way better than the one in Ayala Cebu. I hope that Golden Cowrie would really look into the Ayala branch because a lot of people have been complaining about it!

Personally, I prefer Hukad over Golden Cowrie. The food tastes better in Hukad and the ambiance in Hukad beats Golden Cowrie hands down. Yes, the service can be slow at times but I attribute this to the number of patrons in Hukad.

the first time i tried hukad, i thot ‘better jd ang golden cowrie sa sm..’ i read in a blog somewhere nga ‘mas better jd ang orig!’ bt aftr the hukad experience, the next time i had golden cowrie, the bicol express and dinugoan were watery nah.. the rice was diffrent.. momy always says nga a major key to enjoying a good meal is being served good rice (meaning, pa anukan ug mau! hehe she once asked the rice lady sa golden cowrie kng ganador ba ila rice the rice lady just smiled.. amaw, gpangutna gni! momy says there’s a way dw to work around ganador pra lami pgka luto.. mangambot lng ko!) off topic.. sorry.. anyhoo, pwera sa tuna fingers, baked scallops n lechon kawali, mao ra nagpablin nga same quality..
